President and CEO Masao Takekawa
“Food Nourishes Both Body and Mind” — This has been our unwavering philosophy since our founding.
Our founder, Yasuo Sasaoka—also my grandfather—began the health food business around 1950, raising concerns about the future of Japan’s food culture. From the very beginning, we have focused on the health benefits of Hatomugi (Job’s Tears), conducting extensive research and developing a wide range of products, including our signature Fermented Hatomugi Enzyme.
Hatomugi is widely known, particularly among women, for its beauty benefits. However, I firmly believe that its true health potential is far deeper and that it can play a meaningful role in supporting people’s healthy longevity.
At Taiyo Shokuhin, we are also committed to environmental protection and animal welfare. With the goal of building a sustainable society, we cultivate organic Hatomugi in-house without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. In addition, our products contain no animal-derived ingredients; instead, we use only the finest raw materials we can source, guided by our commitment to quality and integrity.
Spreading the benefits of Hatomugi to support healthy longevity is our mission. With this purpose firmly in mind, we will continue striving to contribute to society through food and health.
History of Taiyo Shokuhin Co., Ltd.
Founded
Our founder, Yasuo Sasaoka, devoted many years to research and in 1957 successfully developed “Neo Papain Enzyme” (now Hatomugi Enzyme), launching it commercially the same year. He also promoted health improvement through nutrition and established a health consultation center.
In 1963, he co-founded the Nomura Nutrition Research Institute with then-president Masanori Takekawa, which later became the origin of Taiyo Shokuhin.
In 1970, the institute was incorporated and renamed Taiyo Shokuhin Co., Ltd. officially establishing the company.
