創業者である笹岡康夫が長年研究し１９５７年｢ネオ・パパイン酵素｣(現在：ハトムギ酵素)の開発に成功、同年発売を開始する。また、食べ物による体質改善を提唱し、健康相談所を開設。１９６３年前社長である竹川政範と共に太陽食品設立の元となる野村栄養研究所を設立。１９７０年野村栄養研究所を法人化し太陽食品株式会社に改名、同年会社設立した。

In 2013, we launched the Organic Job's Tears Production Division, starting with 6,000 square meters. As of 2021, we cultivate organic Job's Tears across 40,000 square meters. In 2014, we obtained certification for our Sixth Industry Development Project. In 2016, we spun off the organic Job's Tears production business and established "Hatogumi Co., Ltd."

２０１７年はとむcaféをリニューアルし｢はとむぎの杜｣をオープン。２０１８年無添加天然酵母のはとむぎパンを開発し販売スタート。
